Statistics Study Program, Department of Mathematics Education, FMIPA UNY implemented a Visiting Professor program by inviting Professor Paulo Canas Rodrigues, Ph.D from the Department of Statistics, Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. Prof. Paulo currently also serves as Director of the Statistical Learning Laboratory (SaLLy) and President of the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS; July 2023 – July 2025). This activity took place on October 2-3, 2024.

The final session in the Visiting Professor program series with Prof. Wu on Thursday, May 16 2024 opened with the introduction of the National Dong Hwa University campus. NDHU is a national research university located in Hualien, Taiwan. Founded in 1994, NDHU is ranked in the top 10% of universities in Taiwan by THE, QS, U.S.

Session 3 of Visiting Professor on Wednesday 15 May 2024 focused on providing theoretical material about density estimation on histograms and general kernel density estimation. Prof. Wu explained that density estimation can be done using parametric estimation and non-parametric estimation. Parametric estimation methods can use the Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) while non-parametric estimation methods can use histogram estimation. Apart from that, for nonparametric methods, we can also use general kernel density estimation.

Visiting Professor Session 2 on Tuesday, 14 May 2024 began with providing information about the National Internship Pilot Program at NDHU by Prof. Woo. Then the professor continued with the presentation of material about the Monte Carlo integration method. This method is often used to calculate integral values, especially when the integral involves many dimensions and has complex conditions and limitations. The second material is how to choose the best estimator based on the bias and variance values. Finally, Prof.

On Monday 13 May 2024, the Statistics Study Program of UNY held a visiting professor lecture with Prof. Wei-Ying Wu, Ph.D. from National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan accompanied by three postgraduate students from that campus. This Inbound Visiting Professor program is held with the fund from the UNY Equity program. This activity will last for 4 days, namely 13-16 May 2024.

Sesi terakhir dalam rangkaian program Visiting Professor dengan Prof. Wu pada hari Kamis, 16 Mei 2024 dibuka dengan pengenalan kampus National Dong Hwa University. NDHU adalah universitas riset nasional yang berlokasi di Hualien, Taiwan. Didirikan pada tahun 1994, NDHU berada diperingkat 10% universitas terbaik di Taiwan oleh THE, QS, U.S. News, yang menawarkan disiplin ilmu terluas keenam di Taiwan, termasuk sains, teknik, ilmu komputer, studi lingkungan, oseanografi, hukum, seni, desain, humaniora, antropologi, ilmu sosial, ilmu pendidikan, musik, dan bisnis.

Sesi 3 Visiting Professor dilaksanakan pada hari Rabu 15 Mei 2024 di ruang sidang 3 Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam UNY. Kegiatan kali ini fokus pada pemberian materi teori tentang density estimation on histogram dan general kernel density estimation. Prof. Wu menjelaskan bahwa density estimation dapat dilakukan dengan pendugaan parametrik dan pendugaan nonparametrik.

Kuliah Visiting Professor Sesi 2 pada hari Selasa, 14 Mei 2024, di ruang sidang 3 Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam UNY, diawali dengan pemberian informasi tentang program National Internship Pilot Program di NDHU oleh Prof. Wu. Kemudian kuliah dilanjutkan dengan penyampaian materi tentang metode integrasi Monte Carlo. Metode ini sering digunakan untuk menghitung nilai integral, terutama ketika integral tersebut melibatkan banyak dimensi dan memiliki syarat serta batasan yang kompleks.
