Statistics Study Program, Department of Mathematics Education, FMIPA UNY implemented a Visiting Professor program by inviting Professor Paulo Canas Rodrigues, Ph.D from the Department of Statistics, Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. Prof. Paulo currently also serves as Director of the Statistical Learning Laboratory (SaLLy) and President of the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS; July 2023 – July 2025). This activity took place on October 2-3, 2024. This Visiting Professor was also based on strengthening the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 4, namely Quality Education: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and increasing lifelong learning opportunities for all.

On the second day, Professor Paulo delivered material on time series analysis using the ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) model in more depth. Prof. Paulo began by explaining the concept of stationary data patterns and stationarity testing on time series data. Learning was carried out interactively, students actively asked questions during the VP. In addition, Prof. Paulo also provided an explanation of the concept of random walk and the concept of data with diverse seasonal patterns. Prof. Paulo always conveys the practice of using the R program clearly along with the interpretation of the output results obtained.
