Machine learning is part of artificial intelligence which is developing very rapidly. Even though the term contains the word machine or "machine," machine learning has nothing to do with machines! Machine learning is a term to refer to a set of procedures for analyzing data with supervised (predictive, classification) or unsupervised (grouping, dimension reduction) goals. For this reason, machine learning is closely related to statistics and is studied by students of the UNY's Statistics Undergraduate Study Program in the Machine Learning Statistics course.

Machine learning merupakan bagian dari kecerdasan buatan (artificial intelligence) yang berkembang sangat pesat. Walaupun istilahnya mengandung kata machine atau “mesin”, machine learning sama sekali tidak berhubungan dengan mesin! Machine learning merupakan istilah untuk menyebut sekumpulan prosedur yang dapat digunakan untuk melakukan analisis data dengan tujuan supervised (prediksi, klasifikasi) maupun unsupervised (pengelompokan, reduksi dimensi).

The Statistics Study Program FMIPA UNY held a practitioner's lecture on December 16th, 2021. This practitioner's lecture presented speakers from the Central Statistics Agency for the Province of D.I Yogyakarta, Mr. Handani Murda, S.Si, M.SE. The practitioner's lecture with the topic "Introduction to Survey Sampling Techniques in the Field of Social Statistics" was attended by 151 Statistics students at UNY from various levels.

On December 11st, 2021, the Statistics Study Program FMIPA UNY held a practitioner's lecture which presented Mrs. Meri Andani Rosmalawati, S.Sc., M.Sc and Mr. Hisworo Ramdani, S.TP, M.Sc. The practitioner's lecture this time is a practitioner's lecture for the Time Series Analysis and Experimental Design courses.

The Statistics Study Program UNY once again held a guest lecture which presented practitioners from the Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) of Central Java Province, Mr. Arief Fajar Juniarto, S.Si, M.A. The practitioner's lecture this time carries the topic "Applications of Biostatistics in the World of Work". The Statistics Study Program FMIPA UNY has held Practitioner Lectures in the field of Data Mining and Databases. This practitioner lecture presented Deni Prasetya Dewantara S.Kom. and Dian Anggriawan Hidayat as resource persons. Deni Prasetya Dewantara is a practitioner in the field of data mining and is currently working as a software engineer at Widya Analytic, while Dian Anggriawan Hidayat is a consultant working at CV Three Connections. This practitioner lecture was successfully held on December 4th, 2021 at 08.00-12.00 WIB.
