Visiting Professor with Prof. Osval Antonio Montesinos Lopez, Ph.D. General Lecture Session 1

The Statistics Study Program of UNY held a general lecture session 1 with Visiting Professor, Professor Osval Antonio Monteninos Lopez, Ph.D. from Universidad de Colima, Mexico. He is the author of three books published by Springer Nature, namely Multivariate Statistical Machine Learning Methods for Genomic Prediction, Generalized Linear Mixed Models with Applications in Agriculture and Biology, and Introduction to Experimental Design with PROC GLIMMIX of SAS. The first public lecture session took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 10.00–11.00 WIB in the Ballroom of the FMIPA UNY Building with the theme Tracing the Roots of Statistics and Its Role in Advancing Science and Technology. This event was attended by students from the Statistics, Mathematics, and Physics Study Programs of UNY. In this session, Prof. Osval presented material on the basics of statistics, starting from data collection, stages in the scientific method, to the classification of statistics into two main types, namely descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Students actively participated by asking questions after the presentation of the material was completed.
