Practitioner Lecture in Econometrics Course

Econometrics Practitioner Lecture The Econometrics Practitioner Lecture was held on Thursday, November 10 2022 via Zoom media. The UNY Statistics Study Program presents a practitioner from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Reninta Dewi Nugraheni, M.Sc. The topic presented in this practitioner lecture is "The use of econometrics in economics". There are several points that are highlighted in this practitioner's lecture, including the basic theory of econometrics, the importance of studying the use of econometrics, the anatomy of econometric models, several examples of research using econometrics, and economic indicators (monetary indicators and trade indicators). Examples of research presented include case studies on stock returns, trading, and e-commerce. In presenting these case examples, the resource person conveyed several different ways to obtain economic research data, namely with secondary data and primary data. Secondary data is obtained from various parties who have provided data that can be accessed directly. Meanwhile, primary data was obtained by giving questionnaires to respondents, and respondents provided feedback in the form of fields. According to Reninta, the questionnaire that was prepared was not necessarily without basis, it was necessary to search for appropriate literature to compile the items in the questionnaire, so that the results obtained were accurate. After the material delivery session, there was a question and answer session. One student's question was "What needs to be done if a model is found to be not good?" The resource person said that there was a need to re-examine the data, whether the data was good enough (if the secondary data had no blanks, etc.) or whether it was necessary to re-examine the questionnaire that had been prepared. With this practitioner course, students are expected to be able to implement econometric theories that have been studied in economics or other fields.
