Big Data Challenge Team of Mathematics Study Program UNY Wins Third Place in SATRIA DATA 2021

Big Data Challenge (BDC) is a competition to obtain recommendations for solving real problems analytically. The problems used in the competition are business/ operational/ strategic problems faced by the organizing partners. The organizers of this competition are government agencies, research institutions, private companies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, or other organizations that have agreed to be involved in this competition. Problem solving is done using statistical techniques, analytics, and data-based machine learning. This activity is national in nature and is organized by the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) University in collaboration with the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. This activity is also one of the competition activities in the Ria Statistics series and the Data Science Festival (SATRIA DATA). The BDC competition is divided into three parts, namely preliminary (1-31 October 2021), semifinals (1-3 November 2021), and final (25 October 2021). There were 218 teams participating in the Big Data Challenge competition coming from various universities throughout Indonesia with the composition of each team consisting of three people. The topic in this competition is the creation of a machine learning model that is capable of detecting gender and predicting the age of a photo/image.

Team of Mathematics Study Program UNY consisting of Anthony Fioren Hartono, Syukron Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Damarjati Prasetyo made it through to the final stage which was held on November 25 2021. In the final stage, they presented a project entitled “Gender Classification and Age Prediction with Snapshots Ensemble” in front of five judges who come from different backgrounds. The aim of this project is a model that can predict age and gender classification so that it can be used for related parties with minimum computational cost. In this competition, Yogyakarta State University won 3rd place in the final round which was announced on 26 November 2021 at 19:00-21:00 WIB.
